School Visits
There is steadily increasing growth in the number of visits by organized school groups in the Polish part of Roztocze. These mainly arrive in May, June and September, either for one-day visits or for a few days’ stay. The most important of the aims of these visits is to get pupils to be interested in and to value the natural environment, especially in the Roztocze National Park, which is visited by nearly 100 school groups annually.
Another opportunity which should be mentioned are the so called “green schools” – effectively field study courses. These involve pupils staying for a few days in the “green school” during which lessons are held on specific parts of the curriculum and students acquire practical knowledge and skills in a “green” setting. Most of these “green schools” can be found in Zwierzyniec, Krasnobrod and Susiec. In addition young people learn about the rich cultural inheritance of the region as well as the influence of other cultures. Besides the typical educational groups, Roztocze is also visited for artistic purposes with some open air meetings for painting and photography being organized here.
UKRAINIAN ROZTOCZE
Excursions are often organized to the Ukraine during people’s stay in the Polish Roztocze. Lvov is a particularly popular destination . Moreover tours have been organized with the goal of establishing contacts and collaboration with the Fine Arts Schools in Lvov, and the arts and craft school in Ivano Frankove. Many Lvov schools organize excursions to the Ukrainian Roztocze, but they are of a more spontaneous character. The idea of a “Small Motherland” should be given more publicity in order to appreciate the values which can be found in the local region, without a need to cover long distances. Generally the local region of Roztocze is not valued by local tourist representatives and schools.
Visits of students of natural science and geographical subjects
Every year more and more students and graduates of natural sciences and geographical subjects take a great interest in the natural resources of Roztocze. The main area for their studies and research in the natural sciences is the Roztocze National Park, whereas the whole of the Roztocze area is interesting for geographical studies. As a result of this research work, there are a dozen or so diploma theses annually dealing with the Roztocze themes.
